Health

TeamLift completed construction of two major healthcare facilities in the Karonga District. The primary diocesan hospital – which includes a maternity wing and is located on the campus of St. Mary’s Secondary School - is scheduled to open in 2025. The facility includes primary care, eye and dental care, labs, a pharmacy, and a small surgical center. The hospital will serve as a hub for a series of clinics throughout the diocese, including a clinic that was built in nearby Zambwe.

The Brother’s Brother Foundation is providing all of the equipment for the healthcare facilities, and Capstone teams from Oregon Health Sciences University have designed the patient flow and a variety of administrative systems.

In partnership with the University of Portland’s students and nursing faculty, students from the Notre Dame Bridge program, New York-based VisionSpring, and the Love of Christ Foundation, TeamLift has completed eye screenings for over 2,500 students and families throughout Karonga District. Individuals needing eye/reading glasses or sunglasses received prescription eyewear to improve their vision.
