“Somewhere in Malawi, there are girls who will one day be independent —
I intend to be one of them!”

— DIANA D, A STUDENT AT ST. MARY'S SECONDARY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

Our Mission

TeamLift, Inc. is a U.S.-based nonprofit whose mission is to eradicate chronic poverty in Malawi by addressing education, healthcare, nutrition and clean water with a focus on women and girls. Don Neureuther and Peter Daino founded TeamLift in 2010 after spending considerable time with village chiefs and Roman Catholic Bishop, Martin Mtumbuka, who encouraged the concentration on girls and women in the Karonga District of northern Malawi.

TeamLift implements its mission by building facilities and programs in partnership with local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) who eventually own and manage the developments.

One hundred percent of every dollar contributed to TeamLift is invested directly in programs that benefit women and girls in Malawi. Our organization’s modest overhead costs are funded directly by the founder of TeamLift, Inc.

  • Education

Provide a globally competitive secondary school and college education for girls who are academically gifted but resource poor.

  • Nutrition & Clean Water

Improve nutrition by irrigating the St. Mary’s farm that both feeds students and serves as a “classroom” for village women who are farmers.

Drill boreholes in every rural Village in all of Malawi.

  • Health

Offer basic healthcare at our hospital including maternal care, immunizations, access to anti-retroviral drugs, malaria treatment, dental and eye care for St. Mary’s students and village families.

Our Beliefs

We believe the people of Malawi, especially girls and women, are a source of unlimited, untapped potential. We are committed to offering an opportunity to access nutrition, healthcare, clean water and a globally competitive education at the secondary school and college levels.

We believe that before TeamLift chooses to partner with a specific village, we must invest considerable time listening to village chiefs and religious leaders articulate community needs. Together, we cultivate a partnership and a development plan, build the facilities, and turn over ownership and management of new development sites to an established Malawi NGO.

We believe village campuses, like St. Mary’s, offer young women in Malawi the best chance to escape poverty, and to live out their dreams. Girls in the developing world who are educated become leaders in their villages. They marry later, have fewer children, invest their earnings in support of their family, and make sure their own children go to school someday.
